It’s Raining Tacos – Roblox

For anyone who has a child of a certain age they will almost certainly play Roblox, and if they do then you will know the Taco song which appears on Roblox. I hear it all the time, and it’s one of them annoying catchy songs.

Raining Tacos Song

One day driving to school I shouted out at the top of my voice the first verse to this song.

It’s raining tacos
From out of the sky
Tacos
No need to ask why

Not that unusual really, but on a normal school run I tend to remain quiet. I have found through lots of experience that when travelling from one place/event/activity to another place/event/activity with my son its best to remain as quiet as possible. We don’t have any songs on the radio and we all just sit in silence. I find this allows him to process what has happened and what is about to happen, and usually this makes things go smoother (usually……but not always!!!). This is in complete contrast to my daughter’s school runs where we had the tunes on, we sang along together, we laughed and we joked and we danced. And so driving along when I started singing the Taco song my son looked at me in shock I apologised profusely and said “I’m sorry but that silly song is stuck in my head and I cant get it out!!” Cue not just one question but many many questions….

“How did the song get in your head?”

“How will you get the song out?”

“Will it be stuck there forever?”

And I realised that he actually believed that song was stuck in my head. I mean it was stuck in my head but he imagined the song to be an actual object that was stuck in my head. And he was so concerned about how to get it out. I wasn’t quite sure how to tackle the explanation but I tried explaining that you have a voice that talks to you in your head and that voice was singing the taco song to me in my head. When you explain it like that it is ridiculous……then I remembered that there is an actual name for it so said its called an Earworm…………(I know, I know, you have read enough to know that saying that was the wrong thing to say!)

“You have a worm in your ear? Let me check!!!”

It’s on these occasions where you wish you hadn’t started it and just remained quiet but I had and so onward we go. After a few minutes of silence, I explained there was no worm in my ear. Earworm was just a phrase to describe a song stuck in your head. The song wasn’t actually stuck I just kept remembering it, and I wanted to forget it!!!

And its on these occasions where you think about what you have said and when you explain it you realise how stupid the phrases and figurative language we use are. My son’s mindset on this type of language is really amazingly different and sometimes quite amusing. Infact I prefer his meaning than the actual meaning……phrases such as…..

“Do you have ants in your pants?” – This has led to him pulling down his pants and checking them for ants. Thankfully we weren’t in public at this point!!!!

“There’s a sweet in this box with your name on it” – This has led to him checking every sweet in the box looking for one with his name on. Good job he wasn’t called Galaxy or Snickers!!!

And my particular favourite was when I said this to the kids…

“Can everyone just be quiet for a few minutes I can’t think straight!!” – This led to him asking “Are you thinking backwards, Mum?” .

Let’s hope when I’m singing “It’s Raining Taco’s” he doesnt look out for falling Tacos from the sky!!!
